ISV wrestlers in their new LEISTER outfits
At the «One year before the festival» event it was already raining cats and dogs. Saint Peter once again was not well-disposed towards the wrestlers. Just in time for the ISV team’s dress rehearsal for the 2019 Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Tournament (Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest - ESAF), to be held from 23 to 25 August 2019 in Zug, the rain came down in buckets. However, who is going to let the weather put a damper on this great Swiss national sports event?
In this blog post you can read about which outfit the ISV wrestlers will be wearing at the 2019 ESAF and what else has been happening.
Eight o'clock in the morning and raining. Rather early and quite inhospitable for a Saturday morning meeting. But this poses no problem for the Central Swiss Wrestling Club team (Innerschweizer Schwingerverband (ISV)) and the Leister delegation including Christiane Leister (VRP), Bruno von Wyl (CTO) and Silke Landtwing (Manager Corporate Communications).
Saturday – two weeks before the big event – was a big day for everyone. The ISV wrestlers gathered in the Schwingerbar at the cattle market (Stiermarktareal) in Zug. Around 90 ISV wrestlers along with the board of directors and the support staff gathered to receive their outfits from their club sponsor Leister for the 2019 ESAF tournament.
Thedy Waser, Technical Director 1 ISV, welcomed the wrestlers, the ISV Board of Directors and the Leister delegation in his opening speech. He thanked Leister for supporting the ISV and then gave the floor to Bruno von Wyl.
Bruno von Wyl welcomed Peter Achermann (President ISV), Thedy Waser (Technical Director 1 ISV), Tom Burch (Coach ISV) and all the wrestlers. He informed the attendees about the sponsoring agreed between the ISV Board of Directors and the Leister Group: «We have agreed to set up the sustainable, long-term project 16/19/22. The aim is to win the ‹Königstitel› title.» For those of you who do not know much about wrestling: 16, 19 and 22 stand for 2016, 2019 and 2022, the years in which the Swiss Federal Wrestling Tournaments will or have taken place.
Bruno von Wyl believes the first stage has already been reached with the selection of wrestlers: «In corporate jargon we would say we are on budget or the forecast is spot on.» He is particularly pleased that interest in Swiss wrestling is noticeably increasing in Central Switzerland.
At the end of his speech, Bruno von Wyl gave special thanks to Thedy Waser, Tom Burch, Peter Achermann, the technical directors of the five cantonal associations, Sepp Burch (coach for young talents) and the entire team of coaches for their great commitment to the ISV.
After a round of applause for the ISV Board, Christiane Leister took the floor. She thanked Bruno von Wyl for his speech. There was not much left for her to add: «Bruno has already set the targets. I am not at all used to that,» she said laughing. She then wished the wrestlers «...above all, injury-free, fair competitions and much, much success for each and every one of them...
...as in business, competition is all about: concentrating on and utilizing one's own strengths. Do not permit mistakes. Be smart and keep cool in difficult situations,» she added.
She wished the ISV as a team the best of luck in their strategy and the right tactical fighting behavior for each wrestler. Recent successes by ISV showed that everything is possible as long as risks and tactics are skillfully balanced.
At the end of her speech, Christiane Leister thanked the ISV team: «I would like to thank the entire ISV team for wearing the Leister colors during the Swiss Federal Wrestling Tournament and afterwards at the arranged wrestling events, and for thereby celebrating our unity in Central Switzerland. True to the motto: ‹Unity makes us strong.›»
Joel Ambühl modeling the Leister outfit
Joel Ambühl was chosen as a model by Bruno von Wyl, who took off his T-shirt to slip into the new Leister T-shirt to great applause. Dressed in a training jacket, rain jacket and Leister cap, he then presented the complete outfit including backpack.
Christiane Leister and Bruno von Wyl then presented each wrestler with his own name-tagged backpack containing the new outfit.
For the outdoor program that followed, everyone put on their new T-shirts, rain jackets and caps. The rain jackets proved to be very useful in light of the weather and successfully passed their first endurance test.
Visiting Bombay the Leister cow
While the wrestlers visited the Gewürzmühle and the wrestlers' tent, the Leister delegation used their free time to visit the Bombay, the Leister cow, in the so-called Gabentempel.

For all of you who have not yet read our blog post, Bombay the Cow has been donated by Leister. She will be awarded as a living prize to the third-place winner of the 2019 ESAF.
After Bombay was petted and given plenty of food, she was photographed both with Christiane Leister and alone.
Thank you Bombay for pointing both ears towards the camera, just the way a proper wresting cow should.
Tour of the arena
After the visit with Bombay the Cow, the exciting tour continued. The ISV team and the Leister delegation had an opportunity to visit the arena, which was very impressive. Coach Tom Burch prepared the wrestlers for the ESAF.
From the arena we walked back to the Schwingerbar, where the media event took place at 11:00 am. Fortunately the weather forecast proved right and it was raining a little less by now.
Upon arriving at the bar, the entire ISV team, including the Leister sponsors, was photographed for the Luzerner Zeitung newspaper.

Pirmin Reichmuth interviewed by Swiss television
After conducting various interviews for Swiss television, Tele1, NZZ and Radio Sunshine, the wrestlers truly deserved the lunch that followed.

The event ended with a hearty lunch in the Gabenbeiz. Proper wrestler portions, as Christiane Leister noticed with astonishment when she saw her plate. Fortunately, Pirmin Reichmuth and Matthias Herger sat nearby and helped Christiane Leister and Silke Landtwing finish her meal.
Leister wishes the ISV good luck at the 2019 ESAF
We will keep all our fingers crossed for our ISV wrestlers in the hopes that they reach their goals and that Kolin the Bull and Bombay the Cow may remain home in Central Switzerland. See you soon at the 2019 ESAF in Zug.
