Leister’s COMET Assist with the Aftermath of the Hazardous Chemicals Explosion
On August 12, 2015, a serious explosion occurred in a hazardous chemicals warehouse in Binhai New Area (TBNA) in Tianjin, China. According to the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC), a quake caused by the explosion was estimated around a magnitude of 2.9—the equivalent to 21 tons of TNT.
HDPE geomembrane manufacturer and installer, Shanghai Yingfan, was contracted to implement the anti-seepage engineering for the landfill site. On August 19, 2015, Yingfan immediately dispatched more than 30 persons and over 1,000,000 square meters of HDPE geomembrane (T2.0mm * W7m）to the site.
In order to prevent the groundwater from being polluted by the hazardous chemical rubbish, Shanghai Yingfan used four Leister’s COMET geomembrane automatic welders in 24-hour shifts to speed up the process significantly and assure the highest welding quality.
