“Greenland is a unique island, whose exposed climate and endless landscapes of ice have fascinated me for many years. It is home to major climate and polar research stations. In the context of current discussions about the climate, it provides the ideal starting point for an expedition.” Christiane Leister, 2019
This fascination gave rise to a long-term engagement: Christiane Leister organized and financed several scientific expeditions to northern and eastern Greenland through the Leister Foundation.
Expeditions That Contribute to Our Knowledge and Leave a Mark
Greenland’s geographic location and exposure to the ongoing effects of climate change make it an ideal setting for interdisciplinary research projects.
The Leister Foundation gives scientists the opportunity to conduct observations and measurements in remote, hard-to-reach areas, as well as to collect a variety of samples for subsequent laboratory analysis. The resulting data, models, and insights help us better prepare for the challenges posed by our rapidly changing environment.
The scientific findings and personal experiences of the expedition teams have been published in three captivating books intended for a broad audience. They give the reader a glimpse of a unique and changing habitat, showing what can be achieved when curiosity, love of knowledge, research, art, and personal engagement come together.
You can order the books on the Greenland expeditions free of charge from the Leister Foundation.
