After more than 25 years of successful development and commercialization in the field of laser plastic welding, the Leister Group is now realigning its strategic focus. Going forward, Leister will concentrate even more strongly on its core areas: plastic welding and industrial process heat.
On March 1, 2025, Hymson Novolas AG – a subsidiary of the globally active technology group Hymson Laser Technology Group Co. Ltd. – acquired the laser plastic welding business from Leister Technologies AG.
As part of the acquisition, a new Laser Technology Center will be established in Giswil (Canton of Obwalden), under the leadership of Dr. Jie-Wei Chen. This ensures a seamless continuation of the existing product lines and reliable support for the globally installed systems.
Smooth Transition for Employees and Customers
A total of nine Leister employees have joined Hymson, including six who were previously affected by job terminations at Leister. The transition was carried out in an orderly manner and with the interests of all parties involved in mind.
Martin Zingg, Group CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Leister Group, commented:
“I’m very pleased that laser plastic welding will remain in Obwalden and continue to evolve here. This guarantees ongoing, professional support for our global customers. I’m especially glad that our employees were able to transition smoothly.”
Dr. Jie-Wei Chen, Member of the Board of Directors of Hymson Novolas AG, also sees great potential in the acquisition:
“Despite a challenging market environment, we see strong opportunities in laser plastic welding. We are committed to quality, innovation, and leveraging the expertise of the former Leister employees to successfully continue and grow the business.”
