Droughts and flash floods are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide due to climate change and extreme weather events. However, innovative solutions such as water storage tanks and underground infiltration trenches help manage valuable rainwater sustainably and meet the challenges of climate change.

Focus on rainwater management

With increasing dry spells and heavy rainfall, countries in temperate climate zones, such as the Alpine region, are also affected by extreme weather. Decreasing amounts of snow and long dry periods lead to significant water problems, especially in summer. One solution that has proven successful in agriculture and fruit farming is water storage made of plastic membranes (infiltration trenches). They store rainwater efficiently and prevent it from seeping into the ground so that it can be used during dry periods.

Innovative underground water storage tanks: Infiltration trenches

Infiltration trenches, modern underground water reservoirs, gather excess water during heavy rainfall and allow it to seep into the ground in a controlled manner. In the past, infiltration trenches were made of gravel, but these days, box-shaped plastic infill panels are being increasingly used, which are particularly effective and durable.

Automatic welding machines and extruders from Leister in use

To ensure the reliable, permanent welding of plastic membranes and infiltration trenches, Germany-based PK Regenwassermanagement GmbH relies on Leister. Welding machines and extruders such as the WELDPLAST S2, TWINNY T5/T7, COMET 500/700, FUSION 3C and TRIAC AT/ST improve the quality of storage solutions significantly. These precise, powerful devices make it possible to prepare water storage systems for a long service life, regardless of the weather.

PK Regenwassermanagement GmbH designs and supplies rainwater retention systems for projects such as the Alte Molkerei in Horstmar or the new building in Recklinghausen. “Using Leister devices ensures high-quality and reliable welds. They make a significant contribution to using rainwater efficiently and successfully managing insufficient or excess water,” emphasizes Managing Director Gisbert Peka.

Securing a sustainable future

Extreme weather events pose a growing threat, but there are solutions. Water storage tanks and infiltration trenches are efficient methods of managing rainwater and counteracting the effects of climate change. With the right technology, such as welding solutions from Leister, together we can create a sustainable future for generations to come.
